Excerpt from The Last Morning Star

Excerpt from: The Last Morning Star, Chapter 1
"Remembering the divine,
The serpent of time and the creepers of sorrow
Do not bother you.

"Daya says, if you remember the divine, then all of life’s sorrows, the whole conflagration of life’s sorrows, will be soothed. Then nothing will be able to burn you. Right now, everything burns you. Right now, what you call life is not life, it is a funeral pyre. You are burning in all sorts of ways. Sometimes you burn with fury, sometimes you burn in a funeral pyre, but you are burning the whole time. Sometimes the funeral pyre is obvious, sometimes it is hidden; sometimes it is visible, sometimes invisible – but you continue to burn. Have you ever known a taste of nectar in your life? Have you ever known a moment when your heart did not burn, when the burning was completely alleviated? Sometimes the burning is intense, sometimes it is less intense, sometimes the burn marks go away, sometimes not, but have you ever known a moment of peace, have you ever known a moment of bliss? Did the door ever open? Never!

"Remembering the divine,
The serpent of time and the creepers of sorrow
Do not bother you.

"But only he who remembers the divine attains to that supreme peace and goes beyond the raging flames of the world.

"What is meant by remembering the divine?

"If man considers himself to be the peak as he is, he will live in sorrow and then be finished – just as no flowers will ever blossom if a seed assumes itself to be the end of things. A seed has to transcend, it has to go beyond itself. It is when man also tries to go beyond himself that he remembers the divine.

"What does remembering the divine mean? It does not mean sitting down and saying "Rama-Rama, Rama-Rama," or covering yourself with a shawl which has the name of Rama printed on it. This matter is not so cheap! Remembrance of the divine means that you have begun to go beyond yourself, that you have begun to raise your eyes upwards, that the seed has begun to search for the flower… It is not a flower yet, but it can become one… The seed has begun to search for the flower, the flame of the lamp has begun to rise towards the sky, towards the sun. The journey has begun: the seed has burst, the sprout has emerged and has started its journey towards the sky."

Friendship

Friendship is a relationship. You can be in relationship with a few people. Friendliness is a quality not a relationship. It has nothing to do with anybody else; it is basically your inner quality. You can be friendly even when you are alone. You cannot be in friendship when you are alone - the other is needed - but friendliness is a kind of fragrance. A flower opens in the jungle; nobody passes by - still it is fragrant. It does not matter whether anybody comes to know of it or not, it is its quality. Nobody may ever come to know about it, but that does not matter. The flower is rejoicing.

Friendship can exist only between one man and another man or at the most between a man and an animal - a horse, a dog. But friendliness can exist even with a rock, with a river, with a mountain, with a cloud, with a far-away star. Friendliness is unlimited because it is not dependent on the other; it is absolutely your own flowering.

So, be friendly, just friendly to all that exists. And in that friendliness you will find all that is worth finding. In friendliness you will find the ultimate friend.

Conversation with Krishna

CONVERSATION WITH KRISHNA ..

Me- I can’t find free time. Life has become hectic.

KRISHNA : Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you free.

Me :why has life become complicated now?

KRISHNA : Stop analyzing life. Just live it. It makes it complicated.

Me : Why are we then constantly unhappy?

KRISHNA : Worrying has become your
habit. That’s why you are not happy.

Me: why do good people always suffer?

KRISHNA : Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold cannot be purified without fire. Good people go through trials, but don’t suffer.
With that experience their life becomes better, not bitter.

Me : You mean to say such experience is useful?

KRISHNA : Yes. In every term, Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lessons afterwards.

Me : bcos of so many problems, we don’t know where we are heading…

KRISHNA : If you look outside you will not know where you are heading. Look inside. Eyes provide sight. Heart provides d way.

Me : y does failure hurt
more than moving in the right direction?

KRISHNA : Success is a measure as decided by others. Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you.

Me : In tough times, how do you stay motivated?

KRISHNA : Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are missing.

Me : What surprises you about people?

KRISHNA : When they suffer they ask, “why me?” When they prosper, they never ask “Why me?”

Me : How can I get the best out of life?

KRISHNA : Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.

Me : One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.

KRISHNA : There are no unanswered prayers. Keep the faith and drop the fear. Life is a mystery to solve, not a

problem to resolve. Trust me. Life is wonderful if you know how to live.

Why Sri Sainath Maharaj is called Sacchidananda Sadguru?

Every time the aarti is sung or some devotee visits Sri Sainath Maharaj, they hail him as 'Sri Sacchidananda Sadguru Sainath Maharaj ki jai'. What is the real significance of this term 'Sacchidananda' ?

The famous sage Shuka, son of Sri Vyasa Maharshi, goes into deep forests for penancing in search of 'Brahman'. After sometime, he returns and tells his father ' O father, I found Brahman. It is nothing but the Food we eat. All the beings on this earth sustain because of food. They take form from food and after leaving this body, they again enter food.' Vyasa tells his son that it is incorrect and asks him to continue his penance.

After some more time, Shuka returns and conveys to his father that Brahman is nothing but Life. Because, it is the life that is making everything active and any object on the earth is inactive without life in it. The father sends the son to the forest again.

Shuka was in a deep penance this time and after some more time, comes with an explanation for Brahman. He says this time that the Mind is the Brahman. Because, it is where all this thoughts and ideas start, develop and end finally. It is the one which is playing a crucial part in all the human beings activities to do or not to do something. Yet, the untiring father, Vyasa, is not convinced and sends his son into the deep woods again.

The boy retires to the forest with more zeal and vigour to know the real form of Brahman. He forces himself to still more severe penances and comes home after some more time and submits to his father; 'O father, Brahman is nothing but Knowledge. Though one has food, life and mind. Without the knowledge of realizing all these, there is nothing.' Sage Vyasa seems not to be fully convinced and asks his son to explore still further.

Sage Shuka returns to forest and this time after a long time, he returns to his father to submit that happiness or eternal bliss is nothing but Brahman. Here, the real meaning of happiness is contentment. Though you have everything at your disposal, lack of contentment would throw all this into dark and make you unhappy.

Then, Vyasa explains to his son, 'O, my dear son, Brahman contains all the aspects you put forth till now. But that is not the entirety of Brahman. Note the subtle difference that this is all Brahman but Brahman is just not this. Brahman is nothing but Sat (Truth), Chit (Eternal or immortal, the soul) and Ananda (infinite). In real terms of Shastra, ananda is not happiness but infiniteness.

The term 'Sacchidananda' is made of 'SAT', 'CHIT' & 'ANANDA'. Thus, Sri Sainath Maharaj is the embodiment of Truth (always existent), Eternal or immortal & infinite shape of Brahman in physical form.
